Communicating with Your Missionary

Comunications to Your Missionary – Missionaries Love Mail!

As missionaries move frequently, all mail and packages should be sent to the Mission Office. We frequently have more than one missionary with the same surname, so it is critical that all mail be addressed in this way:

Elder or Sister First, Middle Initial Last Name
1591 East Temple Way
Los Angeles, CA 90024

Avoid the use of nicknames, as they are not on our records and using them may delay the delivery of mail.

Communication from Your Missionary:

Missionary Guidelines: “You may communicate with your family on your weekly preparation day via letters, emails, text messages, online messaging, phone calls, and video chat.

You also are encouraged to contact your family on other special occasions, such as Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, your parents’ birthdays, and other holidays that are significant in your home country or culture.

You should initiate all text message conversations, online messaging, phone calls, and video chats. If your family needs to call you, they should contact the mission president first.

When communicating with your family, be considerate of your companion and keep in mind the purpose of your missionary service.”

Supporting Your Missionary

The first 12 weeks of a mission are a time of many changes. Here are some suggestions to help in this transition:

Instead of saying, “I miss you,” encourage them to savor every moment and to stay focused on their work and serving Heavenly Father.

Pray with them, for them and encourage them to rely on prayer.

Try not to focus on what their friends are doing; instead ask questions about those they are teaching, the work and special experiences.

Send them uplifting letters; include your favorite scripture and avoid distracting them from the missionary experience with too many letters or packages.  Please send or email only one letter per week from each family member or friend.

Most of all, love them, be proud of them and follow their lead.
